FIFA WORLD CUP POOL |
STANDINGS | GROUP ROUND | KNOCKOUT ROUND | TROPHY ROOM |
The FIFA World Cup is arguably the world’s most popular sporting event. Football (or Soccer to North Americans) creates an incredible fervor every four years.
Welcome to the exciting world of the FIFA World Cup Tournament Pool. The format we have comes in two stages, just as the tournament does. In the first stage you will rank the groups in the order that you think the teams will finish in. You will be awarded points based on how many you correctly predict. The second stage is an elimination bracket that you will fill in before it begins. You will gain points for correctly selecting teams who advance through the brackets to the final.
We have a website that hosts our FIFA World Cup Pool. You will make all of your picks online through the site and will be able to see up to the minute results in our tournament standings that are updated live. Once you confirm your participation you will be sent a link to the site to join the tournament.
The FIFA World Cup Pool format is broken up into two stages: the Group Stage followed by the Knockout Stage.
In the Group Stage, the teams that qualified for the tournament (32 teams) are broken into groups containing four teams each. Each team competes in a round robin tournament with the other three teams in its group. The top two teams in each group advance to the Knockout Stage.
For the Group Stage, pool members predict the finishing position of each team in all the groups. Points are awarded for each correct team ranking in each of the eight groups. One (1) point is awarded per correct ranking, members could earn up to 32 points in the group stage (all 4 rankings correct in all 8 groups).
The remaining 16 teams participate in a single elimination bracket pool. For those of you familiar with the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament, think of the Knockout round as the soccer equivalent to the Sweet 16.
For the Knockout Stage, members pick all 15 games in the bracket and are awarded points for correct picks. They will pick the ACTUAL teams qualifying for bracket play, NOT those they predicted to advance. This means members will have to fill out their brackets AFTER the Group Stage is completed.
Points will be awarded for the Knockout Stage as follows:
Statistics will be kept on total points accumulated during the tournament. Individual with the highest score will be the winner. Cash prizes will be handed out to the top finishers in the pool depending on how many have participated.
